Combined armed group launches attack on border police outpost in western Myanmar

YANGON, July 27 (Xinhua) -- A combined armed group of Arakan Army (AA) and Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) has attacked a border police outpost in Rakhine state, leaving three deaths from the AA and two injured from the police side, according to a release of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services Saturday.

The police station in Nyaungchaung village, Buthidaung township was fired with light and heavy weapons by the combined group from southeast and southwest directions on Friday morning at 4:15 a.m. local time, the release said.

The police returned fire, forcing the attackers to retreat to the southwest and east.

Along with the three bodies of the AA dressed in sports wears, some assault rifles, grenade launchers, bullets and improvised explosives devices were also seized, the release said.

The police said that the attacked station remains under control.
