BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Around 100 documents on the official correspondence between Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) officials governing Macao and the Office of the Procurator of the Loyal Senate of Macao, or the then Portuguese authorities in Macao, are on display in Beijing.

Entitled "Records written in Chinese -- story of Macao told by archives at Torre do Tombo National Archive," the exhibition is co-sponsored by the National Library of China (NLC) and Portugal's General Directorate of Book, Archives and Libraries and will be held at the NLC-based National Museum of Classic Books from June 10 to July 26.

On display is part of more than 3,600 documents kept by the Torre do Tombo National Archive of Portugal, which is known as the "Official Records of Macao During the Qing Dynasty" and were inscribed in the Memory of the World Register in 2017.

Consisting of records written in Chinese and their Portuguese translations, the documents reflect social conditions, people's lives, urban construction and commercial trade of Macao at that time and are important historical records for studying the Macao region in the Qing Dynasty.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the return of Macao, a former Portuguese colony, to its motherland China.
