BEIJING, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Over 5,600 people in some 3,300 cases were arrested for intellectual property rights (IPR) infringement in 2018, as part of China's heightened IPR protection measures, said the country's IPR watchdog Sunday.

Prosecutors across the country filed over 4,400 IPR infringement cases involving more than 8,300 people in 2018, according to the National Intellectual Property Administration (NIPA).

More than 31,000 trademark violation cases were handled, with nearly 546 million yuan (about 81.2 million U.S. dollars) involved, and over 2,500 piracy cases were handled, NIPA director Shen Changyu told a press conference.

Customs across the country detained 23.13 million pieces of goods worth 200 million yuan for IPR infringement.

A total of 19,060 counterfeiting cases were solved by public security organs throughout the country, with nearly 28,000 suspects detained.
