BANGKOK, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's major political parties campaigned in Bangkok on Friday night, making their final push for votes ahead of the country's general election scheduled on Sunday.

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha took the stage at the final rally of the Palang Pracharath Party, the first time since he was nominated as the party's prime minister candidate.

He promised to give better future to all 77 provinces of the country and thanked Thai people for cooperating with him for the past five years.

Prayut has been avoiding appearing in party rallies over concerns that he could be accused of abusing his office in violation of electoral laws.

The opposition Pheu Thai party gathered separately in Bangkok before sunset for last-gasp campaigning.

The party was removed from power by the military in 2014.

The Future Forward Party, another major player focusing on the youth and disenfranchised, whipped up its supporters near where the Phue Thai party held its rally.

The parties are allowed to campaign until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
