KABUL, March 12 (Xinhua) -- At least 14 Taliban militants were killed and 13 others wounded after the Afghan Air Force launched an airstrike against a Taliban position in western Badghis province on Monday, hours after the Taliban attacked an army camp, the Ministry of Defense said Tuesday.

"Afghan National Army (ANA) Air Force conducted an airstrike by A-29 planes in Bala Murghab district, Badghis province," the ministry said in a statement.

On Sunday night, more than 20 army soldiers were killed, 10 wounded and 28 soldiers were captured by the Taliban after a large number of militants attacked the army camp in restive Bala Murghab district, northern of provincial capital Qala-e-Naw.

Afghan military officials pledged to revenge the deadly attack.

The strike also destroyed one vehicle, a motorcycle and an amount of weapons and ammunition, the statement added.

The province has been the scene of clashes and fighting for long.

Taliban militants intensified attacks against security forces and staged several coordinated large-scale attacks against Afghan cities and districts since early last year.

The militant group has not made a comment on the report so far.
