JERUSALEM, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Israel and Australia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cyber cooperation, the Israel National Cyber Directorate (INCD) said Tuesday.

The signing took place during the "Cybertech TLV 2019" event held on Jan. 28-30 in the coastal city of Tel Aviv, with over 15,000 participants from 80 countries.

The agreement was signed by Yigal Unna, director general of the INCD, and Alastair MacGibbon, head of the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC).

The agreement marks the culmination of the tightening cyber ties between the two countries, which began with Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Australia in February 2017 and continued with the reciprocal visit of the then Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in October 2017.

The MoU lays the foundation for continued expansion of cooperation and dialogue between the two countries in common interest cyber fields such as civil aviation cyber security and key technological challenges.
