RABAT, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Morocco on Wednesday launched successfully its second Earth-observation satellite, according to video and statement from the launching base.

The satellite, called Mohammed 6-B, was launched from the European spaceport in French Guiana on the northern coast of South America.

An Arianespace Vega rocket launched the Mohammed 6-B satellite and placed it in the same orbit with its twin satellite Mohammed 6-A which was launched one year ago, also on a Vega rocket, Arianespace said in a statement.

Morocco plans to use the satellites for land mapping, natural disaster prevention and management, environmental monitoring and border surveillance.

Airbus Defence and Space built the satellite platform while Thales Alenia Space supplied the payload and the ground segment for image processing, the statement added.
