JERUSALEM, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday met with the U.S. special envoy for Syria James Jeffrey in Jerusalem over Iran's military presence in Syria, the prime minister's office said.

"The two discussed developments in Syria and the efforts to curtail the Iranian aggression," the office said in a statement.

Netanyahu thanked Jeffrey for his efforts and congratulated U.S. President Donald Trump for re-imposing sanctions on Iran.

Earlier in the day, the White House restored all U.S. sanctions lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal signed between Iran and the world powers during Trump's predecessor Barack Obama.

Israel has reportedly carried out dozens of airstrikes in neighboring Syria despite its official denial of involvement in the Syrian war.

Israeli officials have repeatedly warned that Israel will not allow Iranian military presence in Syria.
