LISBON, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- The law governing ride-hailing service in Portugal for companies such as Uber and Cabify is scheduled to come into force on Nov. 1 after months of discussion and massive protests by traditional taxi drivers, Portuguese Lusa News Agency reported on Monday.

There are three international ride-hailing services in Portugal -- Uber, Cabify and Taxify, plus a domestic platform called Chofer.

According to the law, the companies are requested to get a licence from the Portuguese Institute for Mobility and Transport (IMT), which is valid for ten years.

Only companies will be able to get a licence and use the platforms.

The new law stipulates that the platform operators must pay a contribution to cover the administrative costs of the regulation equivalent to 5 percent of their intermediation fee.

The drivers must have a car driving licence for more than three years and needs to pass a training course, though the length of the course has yet to be defined.
