RABAT, July 28 (Xinhua) -- French food group Danone has lost more than 50 percent of its market share of fresh milk in Morocco due to the ongoing consumer boycott, local media reported on Saturday.

Citing official statement by Danone, the Moroccan news site Le360.ma said the boycott movement has contributed significantly in slowing its growth in the second quarter of 2018 to 3.3 percent from 4.9 percent in the first quarter.

Last April, a consumer boycott was launched in Morocco over unfair prices set by large businesses linked to elite class, and foreign brands in monopoly position.

Besides Danone, the boycott also targets two other brands, namely Afriquia fuel stations, owned by the Akwa group of Moroccan billionaire Agriculture Minister Aziz Akhannouch, and the Sidi Ali water brand.
