BERLIN, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Around seven in ten adults living in Germany lived on their own income from the employment in 2017, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) disclosed on Monday.

According to the statistics, 72 percent of adults aged between 18 and 64 years old, equaling 37 million people in Germany, earned their own living through a job, meaning they are not dependent on social aid or other people.

However, the proportions between men and women differed, with 78 percent and 66 percent respectively, Destatis reported.

"In particular, the number of women doing so had increased ... from around 52 percent in 2000 to 66 percent last year," German media Handelsblatt reported.

German unemployment fell for the 12th consecutive month in June and the unemployment rate in June remained at the record low of 5.2 percent, according to the latest figures of the Federal Labor Agency.
