WUHAN, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Construction of a hydrogen station started Monday in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, as the city plans to operate 100 hydrogen-powered buses this year.

Located in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone, the station, the first in the province, has a daily supply capacity of 1,000 kg hydrogen, according to the Wuhan Xiongzhong Hydrogen Energy Co., the investor and builder of the station.

The hydrogen storage volume of the station will reach 1,000 kg, making it the country's largest in both storage and supply capacity, the company said.

The project is expected to be completed by November.

The company plans to build two to three such hydrogen stations in Wuhan this year, and the number will reach 20 by 2020. According to the plan, 2,000 to 3,000 hydro-powered vehicles will operate in the city over the next five years.
