JERUSALEM, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Israel will export the Iron Dome rocket interception system for the first time as Israel's Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. announced Thursday to sell the system to Romania, local media reported.

The company has signed a cooperation agreement with Romanian company Romaero, which paves the way for the first ever export sales, online newspaper the Times of Israel reported.

The agreement, signed in Bucharest, will include development of the seaborne version of the Iron Dome short-range missile defense system, Samson remote control weapons systems and Spike tactical missiles, Rafael said in a statement.

The Israel Defense Forces used Iron Dome successfully in recent years with high success rates in interception of rockets fired against Israel's home front. However, the interception system has not been exported to other countries.

The statement did not give the specific value of the agreement.
