RIO DE JANEIRO, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian President Michel Temer's approval rating fell from 6 to 5 percent, according to a poll released Thursday.

The poll by Brazilian Institute of Public Opinion and Statistics (Ibope), which was commissioned by the National Industry Confederation, found 72 percent of the respondents considered Temer's government to be "bad" or "very bad", while 21 percent rated it "regular". Around 2 percent had no opinion on the matter.

The Ibope poll was carried out with 2,000 respondents from 126 towns from March 22 to 25, before several close friends of Temer were arrested during an investigation into whether they had collected bribes for the president.

According to Ibope polls, Temer is by far the least popular president in Brazilian history. Not even his predecessor Dilma Rousseff, who was impeached by the Congress in 2016, had such low approval ratings, even shortly before being deposed.

Temer has publicly stated that he is considering running in the presidential elections scheduled for October. It remains to be seen how many parties would rally behind him, given his low popularity.
