WASHINGTON, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Donald Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States on Jan. 20, 2017. The following is a brief introduction of major events in his first year of presidency.

On Jan. 23, 2017, Trump signed an executive order, announcing the withdrawal of the United States from the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

On Jan. 27, 2017, Trump signed a controversial travel ban executive order, halting refugees and barring citizens from seven countries in West Asia and North Africa.

On April 6-7, 2017, Chinese President Xi Jinping met Trump at the resort of Mar-a-Lago in Florida, charting the course of bilateral ties in a new era.

On April 10, 2017, Neil Gorsuch, nominated by Trump, was sworn in as the Supreme Court justice, making the court once again dominated by conservatives.

On May 20, 2017, Trump began his first foreign trip to Saudi Arabia and signed an arm deal worth 110 billion U.S. dollars.

On June 1, 2017, Trump announced the withdrawal of the United States from the Paris Climate Change Agreement.

On June 16, 2017, Trump announced revisions to parts of his predecessor Barack Obama's Cuba policy.

On Aug. 2, 2017, Trump signed legislation into law that levies new economic sanctions against Russia.

On Oct. 12, 2017, Trump announced the withdrawal from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

On Nov. 8-10, 2017, Trump paid his first state visit to China.

On Dec. 6, 2017, Trump announced his official recognition of Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel, and instructed to begin the process of moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.

On Dec. 12, Trump signed a defense policy bill worth nearly 700 billion U.S. dollars for the 2018 fiscal year.

On Dec. 18, 2017, Trump announced the national security strategy, the first of its kind since he took office, listing China and Russia as "competitors."

On Dec. 22, 2017, Trump sighed a tax reform bill into law, the most significant overhaul of the U.S. tax system since 1986.

On Jan. 12, 2018, Trump said he will extend sanctions relief on Iran under a landmark nuclear deal for the last time, threatening a U.S. withdrawal from the pact.
