Uganda cancels Afri T20 Cricket League

KAMPALA, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has cancelled the 2017 Afri T20 Cricket League after foreign players failed to get international clearance.

Martin Ondeko, an administrative officer of UCA confirmed to Xinhua on Thursday that after waiting for several days for the respective boards to clear their players, they decided to call off the international event.

"It is unfortunate that we shall miss the chance to host such an event where our players would have got exposed with top international players. But we need to observe the International Cricket Council (ICC) rules," he added.

Ondeko made it clear that ICC requested that all the foreign players get clearance with no objection certificates from boards of their respective countries.

The event was expected to bring together several foreign and local players divided in eight francise teams.

Thirty one foreign players including Pakistan's test player Saeed Ajmal had already traveled to Uganda for the event.
