RIO DE JANEIRO, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Former Brazil international winger Lucas Moura is set to return to Sao Paulo's matchday squad after a knee sprain that sidelined him for almost two months.
Lucas has resumed training and could feature off the bench in Sao Paulo's home clash against Fortaleza in Brazil's Serie A championship on Friday.
"Injuries are a part of football but I'm dying to be on the pitch and help my teammates," Lucas told Sao Paulo's official website.
"The most important thing is that I've recovered and I'm ready to play," added the 32-year-old, who has not played since sustaining the injury in a Copa Libertadores match against Alianza Lima on March 10.
Sao Paulo is currently 10th in the 20-team Serie A standings, having won one and drawn five of its six matches so far.
Lucas said his team was aware of its recent poor record against Fortaleza, a rival it has not beaten since 2020.
"Fortaleza has been a thorn in our side," Lucas said. "But we have had good results of late and a streak without losing is important. I hope to be able to make an impact and contribute in the best way possible." ■
