MOMBASA, Kenya, July 1 (Xinhua) --Kenyan police on Sunday sought help from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) for the arrest of three suspected drug barons who are believed to have sneaked out of the country in June.

Coast Regional Police Commander Noah Mwivanda said the trio suspected to be cocaine traffickers escaped from a neighboring country in mid June.

Mwivanda told journalists in Mombasa that they have sought the assistance of Interpol to arrest and bring the three to Kenya for face the rule of law.

"The three suspects have been classified. They may run today but will not escape forever. This is a business that we are committed to ending," he warned.

Mwivanda said the three are suspected to have sneaked into one of the neighboring countries. He added that the suspected drug barons, believed to be trading in cocaine, heroin and other hard drugs, hail from Mombasa.

The East African nation has lately sustained a crackdown on drug trafficking activities since the January 2017 extradition of the notorious Akasha brothers -- Baktash and Ibrahim -- to the United States where they are facing charges alongside Vicky Goswami (Indian) and Hussein Gulam (Pakistani).

Anti-narcotics police officers say most of the drug traffickers have also been avoiding airports for roads, which are poorly manned to traffic the drugs.

Most of the narcotics that are seized are cocaine and heroin. Statistics show police at the airport seized drugs valued more than 10 million U.S. dollars every year alone. Most of those arrested were passengers who were on transit.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed an immediate crackdown on drugs, dealers and their dens at the Coast.
